A few thoughts about needles…
I now carry needles from 7 different companies. I as a business owner have been evaluating if I really need that many needles and I answered honestly..yes.
I was and still am an Addi girl. I thought I really never needed any other needle but the more I knit, the more techniques I learn, the more needles I try, the more yarn I touch and work with, I realized I can be an even better knitter with just the right tool.
For the most part I turn to an Addi for circulars and I have always used bamboo for my dpn’s. But now I use other brands of circulars depending on the fiber I’m working with. I have found that the slipperier the fiber like Malabrigo lace or cashmere I prefer my wooden Lantern Moon circular needles or even Clover bamboo. I like the Lantern Moon a bit more because they swivel. Yep, no crazy fighting with your cord. These always self adjust. Now that being said the join is more obvious because of the swivel effect but I weigh the swivel against the join and I can deal with a slightly more noticeable join.
If I’m working with a standard wool product and I’m production knitting I like my Addi lace needles. Definitely LACE needles. I like having that sharp tip for accuracy.
If I’m on dpn’s my new love is Kollage Square Needles. These needles ROCK! I have always been a loose knitter and these needles have solved a huge problem. I went down to 0000 needles, that’s quad 0′s to tighten up and it still didn’t work. I love these dpn’s. They also had a circular with a cord that was like wet spaghetti. I thought it was horrible. There are some folks who love it but I wasn’t sold. Now they have a new stiffer cord that works great. Now, again, the join is an issue. But do I love the square enough to deal with the join…YES! I use these for socks on 2 circs. They work really really well and I have just started adding them to my line up at the shop.
So I realized there are many needles and many kinds of yarn. Finding the happy place for both makes my knitting even more enjoyable and I produce a better project. I wonder how many people have stopped knitting because they were just unaware of how their needles worked with the yarn they started with. I hope they liked it enough to try again and that a friendly, more experienced knitter can guide them to that happy place of needles and yarn.
I hope this helps you not feel so bad for having SOOOO many needles. The yarn will come and go, the needles are forever!
Happy Yarn!!
This is happy yarn!
This is happy yarn because it’s handspun!! I have been power knitting for months and months and I have MISSED spinning. I just didn’t feel like I had the time. BUT, finally I needed to spin. I needed my fiber! I spun 4 oz. and then dyed it and I couldn’t hardly wait to knit. It’s soft and fluffy and makes my heart sing! The smell of the fiber the quiet woosh of my wheel and the feel of the wool in my hands has made me happy. So, I give you happy yarn!
I love seeing my tiny lofty stitches! I love that all of this came from my hand. That I made the yarn and then knitted.t the socks that will be on my feet. There is just something so grounding about this process!
I LOVE SPINNING!
Ok enough snow already!
This is what happens when you live in the mountains!

So the fence in the top right hand side of the picture is five feet tall. The gate at the bottom is also five feet tall. Umm Houston we have a problem.
This is the kennel. Have to have a spot for the Saints to take care of business.
This is one of the little habitrails we have created to get to the kennel.
Thing boys are loving it!

A thank you note from Afghanistan
I just wanted to say thank you for you and your customers generosity with all the items that have been donated and sent to us. It has really made things easier for us and is much appreciated. It has helped to remind us that there are people that love and miss us. The hats and stockings have really helped to bring the Christmas spirit to the Soldiers, especially to the ones that are away form home for the first time. It has started to remind me of the summit in Tahoe. We are surrounded by mountains on all sides and have just started to get snow on them. It has made a few of us home sick. More so then before. So thank you once again for the goodies and for keeping us in your thoughts.
Sincerely
